Is there a herpetologist in the house?
*gulp*

I just found this sticking out from under one of the hampers in my laundry room.

The piece is about 15 inches long. There was another 3 inch piece behind the hamper.

My kids have a real bad habit of leaving that back door side open. And there are a LOT of potential hiding places inside my 1920s house.

Does anyone have any offhand idea who my legless guest might be?

Reminds me of my little ball python. I miss her sometimes. Not an expert in any way shape or form though. I would guess a young python though.

Hmm.. pythons are not native, but there are a lot of pet reptiles that wind up living well in the wild here because of the climate.

I called someone from the Suncoast Herpetological Society. She's going to email my photos to their snake expert. Sight unseen, she thinks it's a corn snake. They are typically not aggressive and don't have much in the way of teeth even if they do feel cornered enough to bite, so I can get back to reorganizing the laundry room without fear, lol. She also said that, if it got in, I can be pretty confident that it'll get back out without any trouble; so, I don't have to worry about it starving in my house.

Maybe a yellow rat snake too. Please be sure to post the identity of your mystery guest if the Herp Society writes you back. My guess is that the poor little guy was just looking for somewhere warm to go and shed his skin...those late season cold fronts were probably pretty hard on him. Maybe he's just slithered back out in the yard now that it's warm again!

oh my god. that scares me! (i live in a house built in the 30's--kind of close to the age of yours). My friend works in landscaping and he found a huge snakeskin at his job site and left it on my porch to show me. I freaked out when i got home and it was just on my porch! not in my house.

It seems like a common garden snake or black snake. I would check online and see what kind of snakes are common in your area.

mothballs are good to keep snakes away. is it dry out? the may come in for water.

oh btw I'm a poor_skills member and i seen a post you made, do you mind if i add your to my freinds? you seem really interesting.
